Ruby-Throated Hummingbird- A First For Me :)

Male Ruby Throated Humming Bird

This is my very first time ever attempting to capture a Humming Bird. I just put up my feeder last night, and at noon today I spotted a Humming Bird . I went and got my camera and waited for it to come back. They are so quick and I am so slow, Ha! But I got this shot with a 55-250mm Lens from my deck. Hats off to those of you who have captured and taken such great pictures of these little birds. Now I know how much of a challenge they are.

The Ruby Throated Humming Bird is the only one that we usually see in Ontario, Canada, but they do say that every once in awhile another species will show up unexpected. Maybe they forgot to ask directions, Ha! I really don’t know too much about Humming Birds but will try and learn a few things about them. I was thrilled to see one of these beautiful tiny little birds in my back yard. Hopefully it will spread the word and bring some of his friends and family with him next time.

It was a beautiful hot sunny day here today and I stayed outside in my back yard for most of the day, just enjoying the great outdoors.

I hope to find you all well and enjoying the weather , where ever you might be, and what ever season it is where you live. Right now we are enjoying Spring and before you know it summer will be upon us.

Take care and have a great week ahead.

Love and Care

Dianne :)

  2. Love your photo! Haven't had any show up yet. Unfortunately every year we have a male who is very aggressive and it's "his" feeder and he chases every other hummer away. I see photos of feeders having multiple hummers at them but never in real life.

  6. Hi Dianne,

Great picture, I like your feeder too.

We should have spring here, but at the moment, it is not very springlike, hoping it will change soon.

    1. Thank you Gail. I bet if you put a hummingbird feeder out, you may be pleasantly surprised.

It has been hovering around 68F-70F plus here the last few days. When the sun is shining it has been even hotter on my back deck. I have been outside as much as possible cause I just love the warmer weather and the great outdoors. When I am working I am always indoors.
So nice to hear from you dear friend. :)

  10. Dianne,
For your first time you sure nailed the colors and a beauty of a hummer! I think this is fun because I never tried hummingbirds with my camera either, until a few days ago. I think your hummingbirds are very charming. I say keep on going...

  23. Stunning photos as always, and a first time for hummers! What does that tell you? You are a wonderful photographer and I always enjoy seeing your photos. See if you can get a ball of cotton from your bird store. Not dryer lint. Hang that birdstore cotton during nest time, and you will be surprised. I sure was this year. The hummers are coming and picking at it all day long. You need to come sit on my deck and take photos, so I can learn all your skills.

  24. Thank you Jane. I am humbled by your comment. You are very Gracious. :)

Thank you for your good advise and I am not sure if it is too late for the cotton ball or not. They may have already nested. I will look into it when I get a chance.

I haven't got any more photos of them yet. I have had them buzz by my ear a couple of times, and seen them while eating on the deck, but when I have my camera handy they haven't showed up. I think they may be camera shy like me. Ha!

I would love to come sit on your deck and take lots of photos, and learn from you. :) Your photos are amazing!!!
